P is for products

An exciting email landed in my inbox a couple of weeks ago: we have recently been approached to review ‘Cathdressing’, a new product by JMBIOTECH.

Come take a look at what myself and Corin have to say about this NEW product! Our review will come from two perspectives: one from myself, an SPC user for nearly 10 years (@bisforbladder) and one from a newbie who’s only been living with an SPC for 6 months (Corin, @bestbladderlife). This way, wherever you are in your SPC journey, hopefully you’ll be able to relate and see if this might be something you’ll be adding to your dressings box in the future.

“I’ve got my SPC routine pretty set out now, I know what I like and what I don’t. I tend to wear a standard dressing (with no cutting) or a tubie pad if my site isn’t too sore. I was sceptical about a new dressing and whether it would irritate my skin, pull it off altogether or be able to handle my leaks.

CATHDRESSING has surpassed all my expectations. I haven’t stopped using them since they arrived and will be definitely looking to make these part of my daily routine. My site is leaking quite a lot at the moment and these dressings have coped with even the biggest leaks – the foamy padding is much more absorbent than a standard dressing. I haven’t had any skin irritation – I really don’t get on with lots of the more adhesive dressings so was really pleased that these were gentle enough on my skin to be used daily.

I’ll still be using tubie pads when I can as think getting that air flow is always a good thing, but I’ll be using these alongside on those leakier days.”

“I change my mind all the time about what dressings I like best, generally it’s a standard foam dressing cut for my tube and occasionally a tubie pad when I’m feeling brave. I use these with a CATHDRESSING attachment to try and minimise those pulls.

I’ve found so many dressings make my skin, angry and sore – I’m always repositioning them to try and give areas a break and generally can never get a dressing off without a good spray of adhesive remover.

When I saw these dressings, I instantly liked the idea – no cutting a hole for my spc tube, a nice circular design rather than a clunky square and the foam padding looked so soft and comfortable. I’m always nervous of my tube pulling or my site getting bashed and the padding really has made me feel a bit less anxious.

They’ve been great for me – quicker to put on without cutting that whole but also it all feels a bit cleaner as I’m not using my scissors on something which is going right next to my site. They’ve felt really soft on days where my site is a bit sore or pussy but are tough enough to stay on when I go swimming.

I think these would have been amazing when I first had my SPC, so easy to use and they look nicer than a standard dressing. Think something between a dressing and a tubie pad, but with all the medical standards of a dressing.”
